story-focused.
The happiness and satisfaction of clients is my main priority when going about commissions. My process relies heavily on establishing a connection to the driving story.
pook hustle
Pook came to me knowing exactly 3 things: he wanted an illustrated version of himself, he wanted purple, and he wanted grass. We spoke extensively on the inspiration for his EP, I listened to the two songs, and I presented him with a variety of sketches. After a few drafts, we settled on the concept that represented his ability to make the best of the chaos around him, and in his mind - to grow from his own turmoil.
Dr. smith
Upon graduating from Columbia University with his doctorate in English, Anderson decided that he wanted to commemorate the moment with a piece of art. This image, posted Columbia’s home page as a beacon of hope amidst the pandemic, tells a story of a black man paving a better road for his sons. Anderson gave me full creative liberty. He gave me his story, and a reference image and let me do my thing. My goal was to capture the beckoning light of a bright future that is also unknown.
alaina
Alaina simply asked for me to do a portrait of her and her mother. Families being a specialty of mine, I wanted to convey the joy on their faces through color. I reframed the image a bit to make them the central focus, and decided to make their clothing the same color - almost indistinguishable as separate bodies, as a way to further reinforce their bond.
